The Backbeat Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Louisiana non-profit corporation whose mission is to foster support of the rich New Orleans cultural heritage through the presentation of innovative arts and music programming and community based events and projects. Learn more about them here.

Backbeat Foundation began its Backbeat Jazzfest Series in 2006, crossing our fingers and hoping that the music lovers who annually descend upon our city would not let Hurricane Katrina silence the music, passion and kinetic energy of the night. The fans did not disappoint. As the series matures we strive to create not just concerts, but happenings that encourage new collaborations on stage and help to create unique and intimate experiences for our supporters and the musicians alike. Our programming is intended to inspire discovery of new music and honor the legends that laid the bedrock upon which this temple of music we call New Orleans is built.

The 12th installment of Jam Cruise, a jamming music cruise on the Caribbean, sets sail on January 4th from Miami Florida and does not return until January 9, 2014. A new boat and a new dock. And 1000 new spots for new music lovers. I participated on the last 4. I got my repeat offender robe and had to make some touch decisions this year which resulted in me missing the only boat I will ever miss again. That being said, it’s quite literally the greatest music festival in international waters, hands down. It WILL change your life, ok, well, maybe just your perspective on life.

1st Annual New York Brass and Heritage Festival

Blue Note Entertainment Group has announced its first-annual NEW YORK BRASS AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL, a celebration of New Orleans music and culture January 7-12, 2014. Artists including THE REBIRTH BRASS BAND, THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA, THE DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND, KELLER WILLIAMS AND THE TRAVELIN’ MCCOURYS and more will take to the stage at Blue Note Jazz Club, B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, The HighlineBallroom, Lucille’s Bar & Grill, and Drom, bringing a mix of New Orleans jazz-fusion, blues and brass for six nights of unforgettable Southern comfort.

NYC Winter Jazzfest

Since its debut 10 years ago, the NYC Winter Jazzfest has expanded its number of performances nearly fivefold. This year’s five-day festival kicks off Tuesday night at Le Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village with Bobby Previte’s Terminals and guests. The Winter Jazzfest will continue through Saturday with more than 90 acts performing at 10 different venues around the city. Brice Rosenbloom, the festival’s founder, said he expects about 7,500 people to attend this year’s festival.

America’s catalytic springboard showcase/festival and year round service organization for world music. Taste-makers for an increasingly diverse and innovative planet-spanning scene, this one-night festival will gather a dozen international acts at New York City’s Webster Hall on January 12, 2014.

That single evening will witness everything from vintage Bollywood confections from Down Under to soaring, heartfelt gospel from the deep South, from lush big bands to the sparest single-string guitar. Long-revered artists—including seminal performers who put Gypsy brass and North African Gnawa trance music on the map—will cross paths with rarely heard masters from little-explored genres.
